Gene-disease association: strong. Zellweger phenotype/neonatal ALD/infantile Refsum spectrum; some milder phenotypes


Severity: severe


Age of onset: neonatal; some may present later


Non-molecular confirmatory testing: yes, VLCFAs; RBC plasmalogens; phytanic acid; pristanic acid

Treatment: symptomatic only; one report of BMT in very early infancy having a positive impact for a PEX1 case; PMID: 34513757; overall, the clinical benefit of therapeutic attempts for the PEX family of disorders is dubious.
